No 1 Tennis player in the world
It appears that a simple allergy test has contributed to one of the longest unbeaten runs in tennis history. The nutritionist of Novak Djokovic currently world no 1 tennis player, determined last year that Novak was allergic to gluten. He now avoids gluten and most processed carbohydrates. This has resulted in an unbeaten run of over 40 matches. Previously Novak seemed to suffer lapses of energy towards the end of his games. His change of diet has had a dramatic effect on his performances.
The question now appears to be whether the gluten allergy affected him physically or has his new diet generally improved his performance? Some academics believe that it could be purely mental in that if you believe in a cause of your disorder, it becomes the cause. Therefore because of the diet change Novak may now believe that the cause has been cured. He always was a very, very good tennis player. His performances now appear to be that of a very good fit tennis player.
One of the customers in our bakery believes that this may put out the wrong message and fitness fanatics may opt for a GF diet without the concerns that Coeliacs have for cross-contamination issues. I am unsure of this, however, I believe anything to raise awareness of Coeliac Disease can only be beneficial. It will cause people to consider their own symptoms and think about visiting their GP with something in mind.
